Progress on diversity, equity, and inclusion
Greetings from the Office of Inclusion! This has been a year of progress for us. Our office grew to three staff members and we have gained momentum moving into the next calendar year.
One of our biggest achievements for this year was working with our group of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Liaisons (DEIL) to create equity change plans for each cabinet-level agency.
These plans are based on the Equity Framework our office uses to guide equity work across the enterprise. The framework specifies five organizational areas that impact agency culture: strategy, structure, systems behaviors, and accountability. As agencies continue to build DEI work in each of these five areas, we expect to see a shift in agency culture to be more inclusive.
Each agency plan includes DEI impact areas identified as priorities for the agency.
Liaisons worked with members of their agency leadership teams to identify key indicators of progress. In addition to key indicators, liaisons set objectives, identified measures of progress, a timeline for completion of the goal, and assigned accountability to teams or individuals within the agency.
These equity change plans are grounded in action, so each plan includes detailed actions that agency teams will follow to achieve goals.
We meet with liaisons and leaders in each agency to review the plans quarterly to measure progress and to outline the actions for the next three months of the agency plan.
This foundational process of setting goals and reviewing them quarterly is very exciting. This process allows for each agency to set goals based on unique needs, but also provides a process for our office to implement enterprise-wide equity strategies.

Accessible content
Please contact the Office of Inclusion at Inclusion.gov@state.mn.us for this newsletter in a different format. Creating accessible content is an important part of any inclusive and equitable organization, and the State of Minnesota has resources to help.
A tip for creating accessible content
Creating a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint? Text boxes are commonly used, but, NOT accessible. Using content placeholders, is a better practice for creating accessible PowerPoint presentations. For help and other resources visit MNIT's Office of Accessibility.
