Manage your beneficiaries. If you haven’t already, designate or review your beneficiaries. Head to Life Benefits to manage life insurance beneficiaries and Minnesota State Retirement System for your pension, Minnesota Deferred Compensation Plan and Health Care Savings Plan beneficiaries. |
Finalize your coverage, if needed. If you enrolled a new dependent during Open Enrollment or elected to waive your coverage, make sure you finish the enrollment by submitting the appropriate documentation. The deadline is Jan. 22 for dependent verification and Jan. 15 for proof of other group coverage. Email the required paperwork to segip.mmb@state.mn.us or fax it to 651-296-5445. |

Check in on your retirement goals. If you’re planning to retire in the next five years, consider signing up for January's State Retirement Seminar. Over four-half days, you’ll learn how your pension and social security benefits are calculated. You’ll also get information about the Health Care Savings Plan, state insurance benefits, deferred compensation benefits, and more. Learn more about the seminar and how to register. If retirement is farther off, consider scheduling a meeting with Minnesota State Retirement System to review your retirement savings. |

Check the balance of your 2020 pre-tax expense accounts. It’s a good time to check the balances of your Medical Dental Expense Account (MDEA), Dependent Care Expense Account (DCEA), and/or Transit Expense Accounts. Your last day to incur an expense for these accounts is Dec. 31, 2020. However, you can carry over up to $550 in your MDEA to 2021 if you made all of your 2020 contributions. You have until Feb. 28, 2021 to submit reimbursement request(s) for 2020 expenses. |
Learn about your options for Transit Expense Accounts. Unlike the MDEA and DCEA, you can enroll in these accounts for parking and/or mass transit any time. These balances will roll over to next year, as long as are you re-enrolled by Dec. 31, 2020. Learn more pre-tax expense accounts. |
