Costs are fully covered for COVID-19 testing and test-related care. Starting on March 18, SEGIP will cover the full costs of a COVID-19 test or testing-related care (such as primary care visit) for you and covered family members. You will not be responsible for any copays, coinsurance, or costs toward your deductible. Remember, COVID-19 testing is limited, so make sure you meet the requirements and call before you go in for testing. |

Reminder: Use free online care for common illnesses or COVID-19 screening. As a part of your SEGIP benefits you receive free online care visits. This allows you to discuss your condition with a health care provider and make a treatment plan from the safety and convenience of your home, whether it's related to COVID-19 or common illnesses, such as sinus infections. Use your health plan administrator's designated vendor to access these services. - BlueCross BlueShield members: use Doctors on Demand or virtuwell - HealthPartners member: use Doctors on Demand or virtuwell - PreferredOne: use MDLive or virtuwell |

For new employees: we're waiving the 35-day waiting period for coverage. To ensure that new employees have immediate access to critical insurance benefits during this pandemic, as of March 18 we have eliminated the 35-day waiting period for insurance coverage. Employees who were in their 35-day waiting period on March 18 are also covered, effective that day. |

Expense accounts updates
If COVID-19 is changing how you use daycare or commute to work, you can update your pre-tax contributions to dependent care or transit expense accounts. In addition, the federal government passed new legislation that provides more flexibility on how you can use health expense accounts.
Dependent care (daycare) expense accounts. You can change your pre-tax contributions to for dependent accounts if there is a change in how you’re using this care. To make a change, complete this 121 Benefits form. Email completed forms to segip.mmb@state.mn.us or fax it to 651-797-1313. It may take up to two pay periods for changes to go into effect, depending on when you submit the form. |
Transit expense accounts. Throughout the year, you can change your pre-tax contributions to transit expense accounts that help cover parking, bus pass, or vanpool costs. To make changes, complete this 121 Benefits form. Email completed forms to segip.mmb@state.mn.us or fax it to 651-797-1313. (This is not for parking or transit passes purchased through the Department of Admin or your agency.) |
Health expense accounts. Now you can use your pre-tax expense accounts to purchase over-the-counter medications and supplies, such as cold medications or feminine hygiene products. This new change is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2020, for Medical and Dental Expense Accounts (MDEA), Healthcare Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA). Save your receipts; you will need them to submit expenses for reimbursement and for tax purposes. |
