 State Leader Spotlight
Tenzin Dolkar, Policy Advisor to Gov. Dayton and Lt. Gov. Smith
Tenzin Dolkar serves as policy advisor to Governor Mark
Dayton and Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith. In her role, Dolkar develops policy and budget initiatives
with Commissioners and leadership teams from state agencies and advises the
Governor on policy issues. She is responsible for the areas of Transportation, Met Council, Agriculture, Veterans Affairs and Military Affairs.
Prior
to working for the Governor, Dolkar was the Legislative Liaison at the Council
on Asian Pacific Minnesotans and worked as a domestic violence and sexual
assault advocate at the Asian Women United of Minnesota shelter for over five
years. Dolkar volunteered with the League of Women Voters for a number of years
and also served as the Co-President of the St. Paul League of Women Voters,
where she started an internship program and managed a dynamic voter service
program.
Her many years of
working with families and children has taught Dolkar that public policies can
assist in overcoming poverty, but can also serve to create barriers. Good
policies are driven by the people whose lives are directly impacted, and
it is imperative to have diverse voices heard within the public policy
sphere.
Dolkar
has a Master’s degree in social work from the University of Minnesota and a
Bachelor’s degree in international studies from University of St. Thomas. She
is also the co-founder of NaMoad Consulting, a service that specializes in
research and evaluation. She also enjoys yoga, reading books, and travelling.
A message from Tenzin:
It
is amazing to work for a Governor who cares about the welfare of Minnesotans
all around the state and is willing to lead by example to make sure we have a
better Minnesota. I get to assist in shaping state policies that directly
impact the way Minnesotans access opportunities, commute, and live.
