St. Paul, Minn—
Yesterday
Anika Ward was named a 40 Under 40 honoree by Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal for her professional
accomplishments and impact to her community. Ward is the State of Minnesota
Executive Recruiter.
“Congratulations
to Anika Ward for this very well-deserved recognition,” said Governor Dayton.
“She is doing a tremendous job ensuring that state government better reflects
the diversity of our state.”
“Anika is bringing to life Governor Dayton and Lt. Governor Smith’s vision for a more
diverse workforce,” said Myron Frans, Commissioner of Minnesota Management and
Budget. “Anika is developing strong relationships and connecting diverse talent
to leadership roles throughout state government and we are already seeing
results – both in community engagement and actual hires.”
Last
January, Governor Dayton issued an executive order aimed at diversifying the state’s workforce and
contracting process. Part of the order created an executive recruiter position,
charged with recruiting candidates from diverse
communities and backgrounds to fill senior leadership roles throughout the state government. Ward is making a difference. Of all the new hires in executive positions in 2015, 49 percent were
women, 25 percent identified as minority, 10 percent were veterans, and 4 percent identified as persons
with a disability.
Since
joining Minnesota Management and Budget, Ward has focused on building relationships with state agencies,
community organizations, and potential job candidates. Ward regularly meets
with community groups, attends jobs fairs, and woos potential candidates. Ward
also serves on the Employment Practices Committee of Governor
Dayton’s Diversity and Inclusion Council. The council anticipates releasing
a new report this month.

under the age of 40 that have accomplished much in their professional lives
while also giving back to the community. Ward was selected from a pool of more
than 500 nominations and will be featured in the March 11 issue of the publication.
