WellShare International, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit,
found that many community members were unaware of the of the dangers of
secondhand smoke. This despite many refugees and community members suffering
worse health disparities, or worse health outcomes compared to other
Minnesotans, related to second hand smoke. In addition, many of these community
members live in low income housing that includes exposure to secondhand smoke.
So, WellShare’s East African Smoke-Free Program staff
started asking, “How do we educate the community about the risks of secondhand
smoke exposure?” and “How can we help community members see the link between
their health and living in a smoke-free apartment complex?” Read more here.

Makers."
Our country is
becoming more diverse, yet ingrained racial inequities remain wide and
persistent. This reality makes it imperative that foundations prioritize
grantmaking on strategies that promote equity, or fair and just inclusion. The
National Equity Atlas, developed by PolicyLink and the Program for
Environmental and Regional Equity at the University of Southern California, is
a first-of-its-kind data and policy tool for those working to build an economy
that is equitable, resilient, and prosperous-in regions, states, and
nationwide. During this webinar, our speakers will describe the equity
framework, take you on a tour of the Atlas, and share examples of how
foundations can employ equity data and policy strategies to foster inclusive
growth. Learn how to share this tool with your grantees to strengthen their
work and advance your own equity agenda.
Join in sharing examples and ideas about how data on changing
demographics and equity can advance the conversations and strategies needed to
build an equitable economy.

As a nation,
we must foster a food system that ensures urban and rural communities have
access to fresh and healthy foods; small and mid-size farmers can produce and
market food in an economically sustainable manner; and consumers have the
resources they need to live healthy and productive lives. This webinar will
introduce the audience to several programs at the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) and provide examples of how USDA funding is being tapped to
improve access to healthy foods and support local food system development in
low-income urban communities. Register here.
Based
on America Walks' recently published case studies, this Webinar will feature
three local elected officials who have used their status as political leaders

County Board Member Chris Zimmerman will describe their personal success
stories, which include reducing neighborhood speed limits and inspiring
citizens of one community to start exercising and lose a combined one million
pounds. Click here to register.

health care workers are modeling healthy behavior through the clinic's employee
wellness program, while Jennifer MacDougal will present
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North
Carolina Foundation’s strategies to increase physical
