Excellence in Birth Registration
Conference and Awards

Each year, the office of the State Registrar recognizes hospitals for their complete and timely registration of newborns at the annual Excellence in Birth Registration Conference & Training.

This year’s conference will be held Thursday, May 2nd at the Mall of America in Bloomington.

The 2012 Excellence in Birth Registration award, our highest honor, will be presented to hospitals who filed at least 98% of their birth records within five days in 2012. These honorees also have less than the maximum number of “unknown” data fields as allowed by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) standards for data quality, as follows:

Birth data item                   NCHS Standard*

 surface antigen status         5%

SOCIALIZE, NETWORK AND AVOID THE TRAFFIC
New this year! Immediately after the conference, from 4 to 5 p.m., we’ll move to a restaurant within the mall to informally de-brief, chat, and get to know each other. This is an opportunity to connect with birth registrars from other facilities and state staff. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED so we can make reservations. No obligation, but if you think you might like to participate in this very informal time, please email John.Marino@state.mn.us and tell him to add your name to the list.
