2025-26 influenza vaccine expiring soon

Influenza vaccine doses will expire on June 30. If you still have influenza doses in storage after June 30, report them as nonviable in the Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC). Do not return any vaccine prior to the expiration date. For more information, refer to the Vaccine Ordering and Management in MIIC.

MIIC modernization

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has started designing a new version of MIIC. The current system has been operating for nearly 25 years. Maintaining advanced and strategic public health work requires up-to-date technology that meets national standards and meets the needs of our partners and all Minnesotans.

Replacing a system like MIIC is a long process. We are working with a software developer with expertise and experience in public health software to determine what to build in a new system.

We’re in the early stages of the project and will share more details as the project continues. You can sign up for email updates on the MIIC modernization effort at Minnesota Department of Health: MIIC Modernization.

Protect vaccines from light

It is best practice to protect your vaccines from light. Exposure to light can reduce the potency of some vaccines. Review the storage and handling information on the package insert of your vaccines to see if a particular vaccine is sensitive to light. Best practice is to store all vaccines in their original packaging until ready for administration. Review CDC: Vaccine Storage and Handling Toolkit (PDF) for more information.
