Action needed June 10
MDH WIC is removing some medical formulas from the medical formulary listing. There are about 30 formulas being removed which will impact about 70 participants. Please review the Medical Formulary Updates (PDF) and the Medical Formula Changes October 2026 webpage for more details including the timeline.
Indicate language in WINNIE
The language data collected in WINNIE is used to help determine which materials are translated as well as the type of resource (written vs. video). Accurate data ensures participants have meaningful access to our program, and that starts with our frontline staff.
At every visit, verify the participant's spoken language in the Household Demographics section and confirm whether they need an interpreter. To identify their primary language, ask what language they speak at home. Select "Other" if their language isn't listed. Never assume a participant can read their primary language. Reminder: toggles to the right = on/yes, to the left = off/no. To review this WINNIE function see the training module: Demographics 2 - Household-Level (Script - PDF).
Note that correspondence preference (Spanish or English only) is separate and applies only to WINNIE outputs like the Official Notification and Appointment Notice, not the MN WIC App.
Local agency staff should talk to their supervisor for approval before registering for training.
Refer to WIC Annual Required Trainings for staff training requirements.

Submit job postings using the WIC Job Postings survey.
Tip for new participants - add local agency as contact
When enrolling new participants into the WIC program, suggest they create a new contact on their phone for your WIC agency.
Participants will be more likely to answer when WIC calls them since they’ll see who it is. This can also help reiterate who to call with questions or when needing to schedule any appointments.
