Supporting pregnant and lactating participants with disabilities
Minnesota WIC already provides a strong framework of care, including individualized counseling, breastfeeding support, and referrals. When working with participants with disabilities, the priority is to make services accessible, respectful, and responsive to each participant’s unique needs. Read Supporting Pregnant and Lactating Participants with Disabilities to find out how we can support WIC participants living with a disability.
Local agency staff should talk to their supervisor for approval before registering for training.
Refer to WIC Annual Required Trainings for staff training requirements.

Family Home Visiting - added to WIC resource webpage
Family Home Visiting is a voluntary, home-based service ideally delivered prenatally through the early years of a child's life. It provides social, emotional, health-related and parenting support and information to families and links them to appropriate resources. Program eligibility, offerings, and structures vary across the state depending on the community served. Contact your local public health agency for more information.
We have added a link to our Additional Support for Families webpage under the pregnancy and postpartum section.
Announcement: in-person regional gatherings
The Minnesota Department of Health is hosting a series of in-person regional gatherings across Minnesota during summer and fall 2026 focused on supporting children and youth with special health needs and disabilities (CYSHND) and their families.
These conversation-based gatherings will bring together partners from across health and related systems to reflect on what helps systems work well within each region, where families experience challenges or disconnection, and how systems can become more coordinated and supportive for CYSHCN and families.
Space will be limited to support meaningful conversation and connection. Learn more and register on the Supporting Well-Functioning Systems for CYSHN and Families webpage.
