New Cultural Toolkits: Karen and Nigerian
We have expanded the WIC Cultural Toolkit with resources on the Karen and Nigerian cultures. Each toolkit provides basic information about the culture described. It is meant to offer staff an opportunity to learn common themes to help staff increase their understanding of another’s culture, and to help build curiosity and rapport during each interaction.
These are working documents, and we will continue to develop additional resources. If you find something that is incorrect or misrepresents a culture, please let us know. If you are passionate about or represent a culture that is not included and you would like to contribute to writing or editing, please email Carole Kelnhofer or Jenny Skinner. We value your lived experience and welcome the chance to learn from you.
Last call: National WIC Association participant satisfaction survey
The multi-state National WIC Association’s WIC participant satisfaction survey ends September 2.
The survey is available for all WIC participants in English and Spanish.
A final MN WIC App message is scheduled to go out on August 26 to reach any registered app user who hasn’t completed the survey yet and would like to.

Visit the TPT Nursing Nest at the State Fair
 Spread the word that Minnesota WIC is sponsoring the TPT nursing nest during the Minnesota State Fair (Aug. 21-Sept. 1). It’s open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and provides a quiet, private area for nursing and feeding parents.
Find us and other dedicated nursing and pumping spaces using the Map - A hungry baby needs to eat anytime, anywhere.

The 2026 Breastfeeding Award of Excellence application period opens on Oct. 6, 2025, and closes on Dec. 12, 2025.
Local agency staff should talk to their supervisor for approval before registering for training.
