Food package changes

One of the June food package changes is a general milk item description. This general description will allow participants to choose any milk or soy beverage option at the store. In preparation for this change, participants who receive evaporated milk on their benefits will need to have their last day to use (LDTU) changed to the 6^th of the month.

• New participants: assign the LDTU as the 6^th of the month.
• Current participants change the LDTU to the 6^th.

MDH WIC will provide more instructions on this process on Thursday March 13; watch for details in the WINNIE communication. Staff will need to start this immediately and continue until the food package change rolls out in June.

Order WIC cards now!

It is that time of year again, to submit local agency orders for WIC cards. If you have not already done so, go directly to Quarterly WIC Card Stock Order Form - Minnesota WIC (state.mn.us) to place your order before March 15.  Please submit your order for the number of boxes of WIC Cards you will need for this upcoming quarter, even if the order amount is zero (0) boxes.

Orders are placed four times each year on December 15, March 15, June 15, and September 15, if all local agencies have responded. Shipments are delivered about six weeks after the order is placed.  Please contact deb.grundmanis@state.mn.us if you have questions.

Nutrition education resources

The WIC app is more than just a shopping tool!

Guide participants to the Nutrition section of the app, where you can review WIC Recipes, WIC Food Tips, WIC Breastfeeding Resources, Health and Nutrition Tips (found at WIC Nutrition and Your Family), WIChealth.org, and MN WIC Baby Behavior Education videos. Exploring specific resources together supports the education provided during the WIC contact and reinforces key messages. This hands-on approach helps participants become more familiar with the nutrition resources available at their fingertips!

Training opportunities

Local agency staff should talk to their supervisor for approval before registering for training.

Refer to WIC Annual Required Trainings for staff training requirements.

Reminder: Local agencies should use WIC grant funds to pay for NWA membership and claim the expense on their monthly claim form/invoice. Log in or set up your account at National WIC Association to access resources and materials.
