State Trauma Advisory Council (STAC) Updates

New Trauma Medical Director Peer Forum

A new opportunity for Trauma Medical Directors and Co-Trauma Medical Directors/Advisors to connect and collaborate is launching in June. Modeled after the quarterly Trauma Program Managers meeting held prior to each State Trauma Advisory Council (STAC) session, this gathering will focus on peer engagement and mutual support.

The first session will explore real-world scenarios on giving difficult feedback - an essential skill in trauma performance improvement.

Join us on June 3rd at 11:00 am, just before the STAC meeting at the North Metro Event Center/Best Western in Shoreview.

STAC Honors Dr. Art Ney

The State Trauma Advisory Council (STAC) recently honored the memory of Dr. Art Ney, who passed away on December 27, 2024. Dr. Ney played a pivotal role in shaping Minnesota's statewide trauma system, serving as co-chair of the Trauma System Core Work Group from 2001 to 2002. The group's efforts laid the groundwork for the successful legislative push that established the system into law between 2003 and 2005.

Dr. Ney's obituary reflects his broad and impactful career, noting that he "dedicated his career to trauma care, general surgery, and renal transplant, and trained over 125 outstanding general surgeons who have served many communities across Minnesota. He was Hennepin County Medical Center's (HCMC) first Trauma Director, a role he held for over 25 years. Under his leadership, HCMC became one of the first trauma programs in the state to be verified by the American College of Surgeons."
