Escape the Vape Video Challenge
The Escape the Vape Video Challenge, a youth vaping prevention video contest, is back for 2025. Minnesota middle and high school students are invited to create and submit a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) video to educate their peers on the dangers of e-cigarette use, also known as vaping. While many populations have been affected by syphilis, AI/AN communities had the largest increase in primary and secondary syphilis of all racial and ethnic groups between 2019 and 2023. The latest post on the OMH Blog for Health Equity looks at some of the ways the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is working to eliminate health disparities among AI/AN communities by identifying cultural and linguistic factors that influence the healthcare experiences and health outcomes of AI/AN populations.

New Report: Understanding Urban Indian Substance Misuse and Overdose Prevention: A Mixed-Methods Analysis
Between 2023-2024, the National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH) conducted an Urban American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Overdose Needs Assessment. This needs assessment aimed to understand and analyze the impacts of substance misuse and opioid overdoses on Urban Indian Organizations (UIOs) and the urban AI/AN populations that they serve. New Resource: The Star Collection Books
The Star Collection books were written and illustrated by Marisa Erven (Coquille Tribe of Oregon) in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. This two-book collection is intended for kindergarten through third grade AI/AN readers. Each book has an educator guide to help with classroom, community center, or family discussions, an activity that a child can complete, and selected words translated into Cherokee, Lakota, Navajo, Ojibwe, and Yupik.

The Tribal Management Grant Program is designed to enhance and develop health management infrastructure and assist Tribes and Tribal organizations in assuming all or part of existing IHS programs, functions, services, and activities through agreements under the Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act.
