Additional adult influenza vaccine available for farmworkers

We have received additional seasonal flu vaccine to be used for farmworkers who would be eligible for UUAV. Those who have frequent exposure to birds, cows, or other animals should receive the seasonal flu vaccine this year due to recent mammal to human spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus. Vaccination can provide protection against seasonal flu and might reduce the very rare risk of coinfection with human seasonal virus and avian virus, which could lead to the HPAI virus mutating and causing significant public health concern.

If you serve farmworkers and would like to request additional seasonal influenza vaccine, you can do so in MIIC by clicking “request special event vaccine” and selecting the event titled “2024-25 Farmworker Influenza Vaccine.” The event will be open for initial requests from Sept. 26 through Oct. 10. If you need more doses than you initially requested, you will be able to submit additional, late requests after Oct. 10.

We will begin shipping doses as soon as possible, which may be prior to the event close on Oct. 10. To ensure equitable access, you may receive your request in multiple shipments. Keep this in mind when planning vaccination events.
