Quarterly Medical Assistance texting reminder
Minnesota WIC sends quarterly text messages promoting the program to Medical Assistance (MA) recipients, who qualify for WIC.
In 2024, texts will go out the first Monday in February, May, August, and November.
- WIC uses lists of new MA recipients who are younger than five, are pregnant or are six months postpartum for the text outreach efforts. We carefully review the data to make sure outreach texts go to potential WIC participants, not current participants.
- The texts are sent to recipients over five weeks.
- The text is available in English, Spanish, and Somali.
We're celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Since the opening of the first clinic in 1974, WIC has been committed to improving maternal and child outcomes.
The July WIC 50th Anniversary Partner Toolkit is ready and includes a video WIC & Farmers Markets, and social media graphics, and sample social media post language.
Check out the Celebrating 50 years of WIC webpage for additional resources.

WIC training conference – speaker spotlight
As we countdown the days until the Minnesota WIC 2024 training conference on Sept. 26, we’re highlighting what attendees can expect from the knowledgeable speakers and their presentations.
This week’s speaker spotlight is Dr. Diana B. Cutts, MD, HCMC. Dr. Cutts is presenting Iron Strong Pregnancies, Babies and Children for the first keynote presentation.
Dr. Cutts is the chair of pediatrics at Hennepin Healthcare and an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Her clinical practice focuses on nutrition in early childhood, as medical director of the interdisciplinary Children’s Growth and Nutrition Clinic at Hennepin. Dr. Cutts is nationally known as an expert in food insecurity in children through her research with Children’s HealthWatch over the past 25 years, including publications demonstrating the vitally important impact WIC has on the health and well-being of kids and families, including healthier birth weights for babies, better health among children under three, and lower risk of developmental delays in young children.
