May is Mental Health Awareness month

Mental Health Awareness MonthWhile mental health is important to address year-round, Mental Health Awareness (MHA) month provides a dedicated time for people, organizations, and communities to broadcast the message that mental health matters. MDH has designed an MHA Toolkit for individuals, organizations and communities to spread the message about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. The toolkit has ideas, resources, and messages to share to raise awareness. It includes key messages for each week in May, social media content and shareable graphics. #YouMatterMN

The Minnesota Statewide Health Assessment is available!

The new Minnesota Statewide Health Assessment is available now. Completed roughly every five years, the assessment tells the story of the different factors impacting our health in Minnesota at this point in time. These factors include our environment, education,
housing, transportation, social circles and more. MDH and the Healthy Minnesota Partnership gathered data and conducted community engagement activities to develop this assessment. It will be used to develop a statewide health improvement framework. Community organizations, government agencies and other partners are encouraged to join in this process.

MDH Equitable Health Care Task Force meetings

In 2023, the Minnesota Legislature established an Equitable Health Care Task Force. The task force will examine inequities in how people experience health care based on race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, age and disability. It will identify strategies to ensure that people living in Minnesota receive care and coverage that is respectful and promotes optimal health outcomes.

All task force meetings are open to the public. Meetings are livestreamed via YouTube on the MDH Livestream Channel. Please send your comments to health.equitablehealthcare@state.mn.us

Ignite the Spark Scholars Program

Structural racism is a public health crisis. To advance our understanding of the impact of structural racism on health, the Center for Antiracism Research for Health Equity (CARHE, pronounced "care") at the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health is launching the Ignite the Spark Scholars Program (ISSP). This one-time 15-month program aims to build a critical mass of interdisciplinary scholars focused on measures and approaches to understanding and dismantling structural racism.
