December Local Agency Call Minutes
Review the WIC Local Agency Conference Call - December 20, 2023, minutes.
WIC Food Package Pictorials – now available!
The WIC Pictorials have been updated and are available to order on the Brush Art website. They may also be viewed on the Local Agency website under Staff Resources / Food Package / Pictorials.
The pictorials are laminated, with one for each food package, and illustrate the types and quantities of foods available, but do not show every option. They are intended for CPA use as tools to explain the food package and assist with food selection. There are two versions: English/Spanish and English/Somali. Since the Cash Value Benefit (CVB) can change, a space was added to that section for staff to write in the value of the CVB.
Possible education includes:
- Select the preferred milk/yogurt/cheese combination. Explain how to identify the correct fat content (low-fat/skim vs whole).
- Explain the variety of whole grain options and explore which the participant plans to purchase and where to find those in the store.
- Explore the peanut butter/beans options the participant prefers and if canned, point out that 4 cans of beans count as 1 item.
- Select the juice option preferred. If 64 oz. containers are chosen, explain that refrigerated orange juice is allowed as well.
- Explain the 3 types of fruits/vegetables and how to determine if they are WIC-allowed. (note: the Food Finder cannot be used to scan fresh fruits/veg.)
The pictorials are also available for participant reference on the Información en Español and Af Soomaali WIC webpages.
National WIC Association (NWA) recipe books – confirm arrival
As mentioned in a previous Weekly Updates, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of WIC, NWA created a recipe book designed for WIC participants using WIC foods. MN WIC purchased some of these cookbooks for distribution to WIC families.
- They will be sent directly to each grantee with the address we have on file.
- Cookbooks were distributed based on caseload.
We need to confirm that each grantee has received their books, and none of the books were damaged. Please complete the NWA Recipe Book survey after you receive your cookbooks.
Please reach out to your State WIC Consultant with any comments or questions.
Local agency staff should talk to their supervisor for approval before registering for training.
