Status of COVID-19 in Minnesota:
Updated September 21, 2023
- Total positive including reinfections: 1,814,772
- Total deaths: 14,983
- Total cases requiring hospitalization: 86,963
- Total cases hospitalized in ICU: 14,585
Numbers are cumulative since Jan. 20, 2020.
Information on COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are updated weekly on Situation Update for COVID-19 with data as of 4 a.m. on the Tuesday prior. The page also includes a map of counties with confirmed cases, data by race/ethnicity, and more.
This total reflects only the results from laboratory testing. There are more cases in Minnesota, and the virus is circulating in communities. It is important for everyone to take steps to protect themselves and others through vaccination, testing, staying home when sick, and more.
Information about monitoring COVID-19 in wastewater can be found on the University of Minnesota's Wastewater SARS-CoV2 Surveillance Study website.

COVID-19 Vaccine Authorizations
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the approval and authorization of an updated vaccine formula to target COVID-19 variants that are circulating nationally. These new vaccines are available for those who are 6 months of age or older.
- People 5 years of age and older regardless of previous vaccination are eligible to receive a single dose of an updated mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 months since the last dose of any COVID-19 vaccine.
- People 6 months through 4 years of age who have previously been vaccinated against COVID-19 are eligible to receive one or two doses of an updated mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (timing and number of doses to administer depends on the previous COVID-19 vaccine received).
- Unvaccinated people 6 months through 4 years of age are eligible to receive three doses of the updated authorized Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine or two doses of the updated authorized Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Telehealth Test to Treat
The Minnesota Department of Health has partnered with Cue Health for a free telehealth test-to-treat program to help ensure Minnesotans have easy access to care, treatments, and COVID-19 medication delivery. This service is free and available seven days a week, additional information can be accessed at the Test to Treat website.
