Status of COVID-19 in Minnesota

Status of COVID-19 in Minnesota:

Updated August 17, 2023

  • Total positive including reinfections: 1,804,279
  • Total deaths: 14,926
  • Total cases requiring hospitalization: 86,089
  • Total cases hospitalized in ICU: 14,482

Numbers are cumulative since Jan. 20, 2020.

The number of lab-confirmed positive tests among Minnesota residents will be updated weekly on Situation Update for COVID-19 with data as of 4 a.m. on the Tuesday prior. The page also includes a map of counties with confirmed cases, data by race/ethnicity, and more. 

This total reflects only the results from laboratory testing. There are more cases in Minnesota, and the virus is circulating in communities. It is important for everyone to take steps to protect themselves and others through vaccination, testing, staying home when sick, and more.

Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests Available!

Minnesotans can order free rapid at-home COVID-19 tests. Every home in Minnesota can order eight tests once a month while supplies last. Even if you have ordered before, you can order again. Order your tests at Say Yes! To Covid Test (sayyeshometest.org). The website is available in English, Hmong, Somali, and Spanish and more!

  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Collaborator (Job ID: 68484): This position will be responsible for the coordination, development, administration, and adoption of equitable workplace and culture specific practices, policies and procedures. The DEIB Collaborator will be responsible for the ongoing review of recruitment and hiring documents to identify areas in which health equity can be more formally embedded in things such as job descriptions, advertisements for open positions, interview questions, etc. The DEIB Collaborator will also develop DEIB-specific trainings, update existing trainings, and facilitate training to all staff in collaboration with the Learning and Development team.   • Communications Specialist (Job ID: 68513): This position will primarily serve the STD, HIV, tuberculosis (TB) section of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Prevention and Control Division (IDEPC). As a Communications Specialist, you will plan, organize, create, and assess statewide educational and informational programs and materials for professional groups and the public. Key responsibilities include coordinating participation at community and partner outreach events, producing and maintaining a variety of print and electronic materials, and developing public information campaigns.

  • Enterprise Translations Director (Job ID: 68509): With this new office, we are seeking an engaged, innovative, and effective leader to provide direction and oversight of translation services for written materials for Executive Branch agencies; serve as a resource to agencies in areas such as best practices and standards for the translation of written materials; and manage and oversee an approximate $1.2 million annual budget, including the administration of the Language Access Service Account fund for reimbursing state agencies for expenses incurred in providing language translation services. You will also develop, expand, and manage a new team of translators to work directly with agencies providing translation services, translating written materials, and coordinating and partnering with vendors.

COVID-19 Community Vaccines

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) works in partnership with communities to provide safe and free on-site COVID-19 vaccines.

Completing your primary vaccination series and getting a booster dose when due remains the most important way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccines continue to be very good at preventing severe disease, hospitalization, and death. Make sure you and your family are up to date on any COVID-19 vaccine doses you are recommended to get to have the best protection against COVID-19. 

  • How to get a free vaccine
    • Check for vaccine appointments using Vaccine.gov (you can search for appointments by vaccine type: Pfizer vaccine, Moderna vaccine, Novavax vaccine) 
    • Contact your primary health care provider or a local pharmacy.
    • Employers may also reach out with information for vaccination opportunities.
