Register for June Webinar
Syphilis Prevention, Testing, and Treatment for People Experiencing Homelessness
Syphilis rates in Minnesota have doubled between 2017 and 2021, including a 25% increase over the last year. There has also been a steep increase in congenital syphilis (babies born with syphilis). People experiencing homelessness may be at increased risk of contracting syphilis and face additional barriers to testing and treatment. Syphilis can be cured with antibiotics, but if left untreated, it can lead to dementia, blindness, organ failure, and death.
In this webinar, participants will learn from Minnesota Department of Health staff about syphilis, how it is transmitted, and the resources available for testing and treatment. Staff from the Hennepin County Red Door Clinic will discuss the role of Disease Intervention Specialists and go through real world case studies and strategies specific to people experiencing homelessness. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide recommendations.
Anyone who is interested can register. The intended audience for this webinar is people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness, people who work with people experiencing homelessness, and corrections, public health, and health care professionals.
