Moderna monovalent COVID-19 vaccine expiring soon

We would like to remind providers that Moderna 10-dose per vial and Moderna five-dose per vial monovalent products for people 6 years of age and older are set to expire in early April. There will not be additional shelf-life extensions for these products, and they are unavailable to order.  

Currently, Pfizer (age 6 years and older) and Novavax (age 12 years and older) are the only primary series monovalent vaccine products available for order.    

Please be aware that dependent on the date of the first Moderna monovalent dose administered, the same product might be unavailable to complete the primary series. In this case, a different COVID-19 vaccine may be administered at a minimum interval of 28 days from the last COVID-19 vaccine dose. Refer to CDC: Clinical Guidance for COVID-19 Vaccination; Interchangeability of COVID-19 vaccine products and direct any questions regarding clinical guidance to health.covid.vaccine@state.mn.us.

Updates on Novavax availability and ordering

Ordering for the 10-dose vial Novavax COVID-19 vaccine will end during the week of April 3. The current presentation (10-dose vial) will be replaced by a five-dose vial. All currently available, viable doses of Novavax have an expiration date of April 30. Doses ordered between now until April 3 will be short dated. There will be no shelf-life extensions for this product. 

The five-dose vial presentation of the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine will be available for order as soon as the current presentation is no longer available for order. This vaccine presentation contains 10 five-dose vials per carton. The minimum order quantity is 100 doses. The expiration date for this new Novavax presentation will be Oct. 31.
