The Cultural, Faith, and Disability Communities COVID-19 Update is being sent to the following three MDH mailing lists to reduce duplication:

  • Cultural, Faith, and Disability Communities COVID-19 Updates
  • MN Immigrant and Refugee Health Announcements
  • The Center for Health Equity

Today's COVID-19 updates include:

Status of COVID-19 in Minnesota

Status of COVID-19 in Minnesota:

Updated December 29, 2022

  • Total positive including reinfections: 1,736,893
  • Total deaths: 13,933
  • Total cases requiring hospitalization: 79,319
  • Total cases hospitalized in ICU: 13,494

Numbers are cumulative since Jan. 20, 2020.

The number of lab-confirmed positive tests among Minnesota residents will be updated weekly on Situation Update for COVID-19 with data as of 4 a.m. on the Tuesday prior. The page also includes a map of counties with confirmed cases, data by race/ethnicity, and more.

This total reflects only the results from laboratory testing. There are more cases in Minnesota, and the virus is circulating in communities. It is important for everyone to take steps to protect themselves and others through vaccination, testing, staying home when sick, and more.

Updated December 29, 2022

  • People with at least one vaccine dose: 4,006,953
  • People with completed vaccine series: 3,779,523
  • People up to date with vaccine doses: 1,227495

Vaccination Breakthrough Weekly Update:

Updated weekly, on Thursdays at 11 a.m.

All data is preliminary and may change as cases are investigated. Case and vaccine totals reflect only the results from laboratory testing and vaccinations that have been reported to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Data may not align exactly with the cases reported on other pages or dashboards due to differences in reporting lags and the frequency with which the data are updated.

What the vaccine breakthrough data do continue to show is vaccines provide protection against COVID-19, particularly against severe illness and hospitalization or death, and we are seeing this protection strengthened when people get a booster, especially for older adults. This means staying up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines, including a booster dose when eligible, is important.

New & Updated Materials

Mall of America COVID-19 Vaccination Site Closure

The Mall of America state-run vaccination site will close after Dec. 30. This state-run site, along with others that were stood up during the response, provided vital vaccination access to Minnesotans of all ages over the last couple of years. COVID-19 vaccine will continue to be widely available through health systems, pharmacies, local public health and community organizations across the state as the COVID-19 emergency response work transitions back to regular health care and public health operations.

Vaccination remains one of the most important ways to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. We recommend everyone 6 months of age and older get vaccinated, including getting an updated (bivalent) COVID-19 booster when eligible. Learn more at About COVID-19 Vaccine.

People hoping to get a vaccine at the Mall of America location can still make an appointment or walk-in during regular hours of operation (Wednesday – Friday from 1-8 p.m.) through Dec. 30. For additional places to get a COVID-19 vaccine, Minnesotans can go to Find COVID-19 Vaccine Locations or vaccines.gov to search for a location near them.
