Falls Prevention Awareness Week

Falls are a serious threat for older adults and a leading cause of injury, but they are not inevitable. Sharing key messages with older adults and caregivers can encourage them to take a proactive role in staying healthy and safe.

  • One in four adults over the age of 65 falls each year.
  • Minnesotans are at particular risk: the state ranks fourth in the country for deaths related to injury from falls.
  • Injuries from falls are common but they are preventable! Staying active helps maintain strength and balance, which lowers the chance of falling.
  • Growing older doesn’t mean giving up on the activities older adults enjoy. There are free and low-cost classes and steps older adults can take to age safely.

Juniper offers in-person and virtual classes to help reduce the risk of falls. Classes like Tai Ji Quan help to improve balance, strengthen muscles, and prevent injuries. This class and more can be found at https://yourjuniper.org/no-falls.

Please help spread that word about the importance and availability of these classes. Share this information in newsletters, on social media, and with your networks.

Juniper has developed graphics, emails, social media, posters, and more for you to share. Learn more here: https://toolkits.yourjuniper.org/no-falls/.

MDH and Juniper will be sharing posts throughout the week of September 19-24. You can also like, share, and engage with those posts to help spread the word.
