Overdose Awareness Day
Today- August 31- is International Overdose Awareness Day, created to provide opportunity to remember those who lost their lives to drug overdose. Recently, Gov. Walz released a Proclamation acknowledging the devastating impact that overdose deaths can have on families and communities across Minnesota. Statewide in 2021, there were:
- 924 all opioid-involved deaths
- 834 synthetic opioid-involved deaths (fentanyl and fentanyl analogs)
- 454 psychostimulant-involved (e.g. methamphetamine) deaths
- 154 other opioids and methadone deaths (commonly prescribed opioids)
