Novavax available in MIIC for ordering

Starting July 28, Novavax is available for ordering in MIIC. Due to limited quantities, please consider your ability to vaccinate all people who may want Novavax, including those who may not be patients of your clinic. Also, it is encouraged to have designated clinic times to maximize usage of each multi-dose vial and minimize wastage. While it is important to not miss opportunities to vaccinate whenever possible, it is also important to try and use as many doses as possible since a smaller amount of this vaccine is available.

MDH staff will only approve orders for 100 doses per site due to the limited quantities available.

  • The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine comes in a 10 dose multi-dose vial and is authorized for emergency use as a two-dose (0.5mL) primary series in adults 18 years of age and older, given 3-8 weeks apart.
  • Providers are responsible for managing first and second doses.
  • Store the unpunctured multi-dose vials in a refrigerator between 2° to 8°C (36° to 46°F) until expiration date.
  • After first puncture, hold the vial between 2°to 25°C (36°to 77°F) for up to 6 hours. Discard the vial 6 hours after the first puncture.
  • Expiration dates can be checked at Information about the Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted

Providers also are responsible for reading and understanding the EUA fact sheet:  FDA: Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted prior to administering the vaccine.

MDH has updated the Interim COVID-19 Vaccine Provider Guide, Template: COVID-19 Screening and Agreement and created the Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine Protocol. Find these resources at COVID-19 Vaccine Providers.

Update site information on Minnesota Find My Vaccine map

Novavax has been added to the Minnesota Find my Vaccine tool. We strongly encourage you to use the provider site intake form to add and modify your vaccination sites when ready to administer new vaccine formulations. Options will include specific age groups you serve, based on your provider type.

Questions on the Find My Vaccine map can be directed to Julie Viken at julie.viken@state.mn.us or Anthony Jumelles at anthony.jumelles.c19@state.mn.us.

Promote COVID-19 vaccines with social media images and other materials

Especially now that COVID-19 vaccines are available for children 6 months to 5 years, we want to make sure all parents are aware of when, where, and how their child can get vaccinated, as well as the benefits of vaccination.

Consider reaching out to your families with young children to share information on vaccinating their kids. Reminder letters, post cards, texts or phone calls can make a difference in promoting vaccination. Make it part of your back to school and flu outreach as well.

There are images providers and partners can download and share on social media to help promote COVID-19 vaccines for children, adolescents, and adults at Social Media content. Additional materials, such as fact sheets, are available on Materials and Resources for COVID-19 Response.

MDH appreciates your help sharing our message!

Thank You from the MIIC Team!

The MIIC team would like to thank you for your continued attention to data quality! Despite an ever-growing list of details to track, we are seeing fewer data quality errors each month.
