On July 19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) endorsed the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendation for the use of Novavax COVID-19 vaccine for adults ages 18 and older under an emergency use authorization (EUA).   

• The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is authorized for emergency use as a two-dose (0.5mL) primary series in adults 18 years of age and older, given 3-8 weeks apart. 

• Novavax comes in a 10 dose multi-dose vial, and once punctured needs to be used within 6 hours. 
• The federal government has initially ordered just over 3 million doses, which is a smaller amount compared to other COVID-19 vaccines. States will receive allocations of Novavax vaccine based on their population. An announcement will be sent out when it is available to order in MIIC with further details.
