Upcoming Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) meetings on COVID-19 vaccines

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) relayed the following tentative meeting dates of VRBPAC to discuss recent submissions of emergency use authorization (EUA) requests for COVID-19 vaccines:

  • June 7: Discussion on an EUA request for a COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Novavax in people 18 years of age and older. Note: The U.S. Government has not purchased any Novavax vaccine at this time.
  • June 8, 21, and 22: Discussion on updates to the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech EUAs for COVID-19 vaccines for younger populations. Additional details on scheduling are pending manufacturers’ data submissions.
  • June 28: Discussion on whether the SARS-CoV-2 strain composition of COVID-19 vaccines should be modified, and if so, which strain(s) should be selected for Fall 2022.

Inventory requirements and follow-up

As of May 1, 2022, CDC changed inventory reporting requirements from daily to weekly. MDH will continue to report inventory on behalf of providers once a week. As part of this effort, providers must submit COVID-19 vaccine wastage in MIIC and redistribution in REDCap (if applicable) at least once a week. Distribution staff will conduct COVID-19 vaccine inventory audits with providers who fail to meet these reporting requirements over consecutive weeks.
