Minnesota Department of Health

Nov. 24, 2021

Good afternoon,

Here are the COVID-19 vaccine provider updates for Nov. 19 to Nov. 23, 2021.

Updated booster recommendations for adults

On Nov. 19, 2021, CDC updated their Interim Clinical Considerations for Use of COVID-19 Vaccines to include recommendations for a single booster dose for people 18 years and older who completed an mRNA series at least 6 months ago.

As previously recommended, all those who got one dose of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine should get a booster dose of any product at least 2 months after their initial dose.

Our priority should remain getting everyone fully vaccinated with their primary series as the populations most vulnerable to COVID-19 continue to be those who are unvaccinated.

MDH provider material updates

The provider guide and appendices have been updated and can be found at COVID-19 Vaccine Providers.

Provider guide: Updates to Moderna vaccine ordering for 10-dose vials (p. 6); updated information on Emergency Use Instructions (EUI) for people vaccinated outside the U.S. or as part of a clinical trial (p. 18).

Appendix A (Pfizer-BioNTech): Updates for people who received COVID-19 vaccine outside of the U.S. or as part of a clinical trial and for booster doses (pp. 6-7).

Appendix B (Moderna): Updates to remove 11-dose vial information (p. 1); updates for people who received COVID-19 vaccine outside of the U.S. or as part of a clinical trial and for booster doses (pp. 4-5).

Updated booster forecaster in MIIC

MIIC now forecasts a booster dose for clients age 50 and older who have received two doses of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty/Pfizer or Spikevax/Moderna). The recommended date will be six months after the date of the second dose. If you have any questions regarding the forecaster in MIIC, please contact the MIIC Help Desk at health.miichelp@state.mn.us.

New client follow-up output to support booster dose planning

MIIC has a new client follow up (CFU) output to support COVID-19 booster dose planning. Providers can now use CFU to receive a list of clients who are eligible for a booster dose based on age and completing the primary COVID-19 series. The output contains a list of client names, dates of births, and all COVID-19 vaccine doses for a client including date of administration and product type. Refer to Client Follow-Up for more information. If you have any questions, please contact the MIIC Help Desk at health.miichelp@state.mn.us.
