INTERACTIVE DATA ON MINNESOTA'S LICENSED HEALTH CARE WORKFORCE
The Minnesota Department of Health's (MDH) Office of Rural Health and Primary Care recently launched the Health Care Workforce Data Portal – an interactive web portal to view and download data on Minnesota’s licensed healthcare workforce. (screenshot below)

https://www.health.state.mn.us/data/workforce/hcwdash/index.html
The portal includes data on licensed healthcare providers in primary care, oral health, behavioral health and substance use, and other allied health professions in Minnesota. It also includes data on:
- overall provider supply by county;
- gender, race/ethnicity;
- current work status, average hours worked, and time spent providing patient care;
- provider education, training and future career plans;
- primary work setting;
- populations served; and
- provider cultural competency and work satisfaction.
MDH is the only organization collecting this level of detailed data on all providers comprising the state’s health care workforce.
These data are based on surveys of health providers conducted by the Health Workforce Analysis (HWA) team and administrative data collected by Minnesota's health licensing boards. The portal provides up-to-date information on Minnesota's licensed health workforce and is the newest addition to regular reports and presentations on individual professions and a wide range of health care specialties developed by the HWA team.
In 1993, the Minnesota Legislature mandated1 the collection of a variety of information from many licensed or registered health care providers. Working with Minnesota's licensing boards, the HWA team collects practice data for health professionals in conjunction with regular licensing renewals. These data and analyses are of particular use to legislators, reporters, workforce planners, researchers, and others.

1 Minnesota Statutes 144.051–0.052 authorize the collection of these data at the time of license renewal.
