Mask Do's and Don'ts

Masks or cloth face coverings can help with preventing your germs from infecting others – especially in situations where you may spread the virus without symptoms.

Wearing a mask does not protect you from others who may spread the virus. You still need to wash your hands frequently, cover your cough, and practice social distancing by keeping at least 6 feet of space between people.

Some people with health conditions might not be able to wear a mask, so be kind and wear a mask if you can.

Not sure how to buy, make, wear, or remove a mask correctly? Watch our new COVID-19 Masks Do's and Don'ts video at Videos for COVID-19 Response.

Grants / Funding

Minnesota Humanities Center CARES Act Funding

The Minnesota Humanities Center (MHC) is providing rapid response grants of up to $20,000 to organizations facing financial hardship. This program is made possible by funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). As the state affiliate of the NEH, MHC has partnered with organizations in Minnesota to bring humanities programming into the lives of Minnesotans.

Through the CARES Act, MCH has received $500,000 to help Tribal Nations and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in Minnesota who have a commitment to, and history of, humanities programming and are experiencing financial distress due to COVID-19.

MHC is seeking to prioritize funding to applicants who face systemic barriers to institutional funding streams and who serve one or more of the following:

  • people with disabilities
  • communities of color
  • indigenous communities
  • immigrants
  • refugees
  • LGBTQ
  • Veterans

Nonprofit organizations with smaller budgets, particularly those under $500,000 will be prioritized.

Discrimination Helpline

This helpline reinforces the state’s efforts to protect the civil rights of Minnesotans. It allows those who experience or witness bias and discrimination to report incidents to the Minnesota Department of Human Rights.

The creation of the Discrimination Helpline comes at a time when there's continued reports from Asian American community members who are experiencing heightened fear and backlash due to COVID-19. One of the disconcerting aspects of the COVID-19 crisis is the continued rise of xenophobia and racism.

Every Minnesotan can call the Discrimination Helpline at 1-833-454-0148 or complete and submit the Discrimination Reporting online form. The helpline is staffed Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Interpreters are available.

Translation services are available and information about the helpline is available in 17 different languages

Social media graphics about the helpline are available in 17 different languages here:
