Status of COVID-19 in Minnesota

Updated March 28, 2020

  • Total positive: 441
    • Patients who no longer need to be isolated: 220

  • Total approximate number of completed tests: 16,129
    • Approximate number of completed tests from the MDH Public Health Lab: 7,290
    • Approximate number of completed tests from external laboratories: 8,839

  • Deaths: 5
  • Total cases requiring hospitalization: 57
    • Hospitalized as of today: 30

Numbers are cumulative since Jan. 20, 2020.

The number of lab-confirmed positive tests among Minnesota residents will be updated daily on Situation Update for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) with test results from the previous day. The page also includes numbers by county.

The total number of cases is likely an underestimate, as we know the the virus is circulating in communities. It is important for everyone to follow advice on community mitigation and social distancing to help us flatten the case curve.

Other Updates

WIC Supplemental Nutrition

In response to questions about Women, Infants & Children (WIC) benefits during the COVID-19 outbreak, we want to reassure that WIC is committed to supporting participants and will continue to issue benefits to WIC cards. Participants' benefits will not be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. If you need benefits for next month, please contact your local WIC office.

Sexual and Domestic Violence or Human Trafficking

Staying home can reduce the spread of COVID-19. But it can make it more difficult for victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence or human trafficking to get help. For any victims and survivors who need support, contact the Minnesota DayOne Hotline by calling 1-866-223-1111 or texting 612-399-9995. You can also contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline by texting LOVEIS to 22522.

Discrimination

Minnesota is experiencing a higher rate of discrimination and hate speech. We cannot tolerate discrimination against our neighbors. Stigma will NOT fight coronavirus. Sharing accurate information will.

If you believe you have been discriminated against because of COVID-19, contact the Minnesota Department of Human Rights by calling 651-539-1133 or 1-800-657-3704.
