MIIC Tip: Internet Explorer versus Edge

Did you know that MIIC is most compatible with the internet browser Internet Explorer (IE)?

If you have Windows 10 installed on your computer then Microsoft's newest internet browser, Edge, comes installed as the default browser.

The Edge icon, a blue letter "e," looks similar to the Internet Explorer icon, but they are two different browsers.

Internet Explorer: Internet Explorer icon

To open Internet Explorer we recommend:

  • Select the magnifying glass in the lower left corner of your screen and begin typing "Internet Explorer." If you have IE installed on your computer it will pop up in the search menu. Simply click it to open.

  • If you do not have IE installed, you can also try to open Internet Explorer through Edge. This process will vary depending on the version of Edge you have installed.

Can't find Internet Explorer on your computer? Contact your IT staff for assistance.

Are you already using IE to use MIIC and having issues with certain functions? Check out User Guide: Compatibility View Mode Procedure for more information.

Hepatitis A outbreak update

New cases of hepatitis A continue to emerge in Minnesota with 84 cases reported across 24 counties as of Feb. 21, 2020. Most (77%) of these cases have been hospitalized. All of the cases have been in adults. Vaccination is the best way to prevent hepatitis A. Hepatitis A vaccine has been recommended for children since 2006, but many adults have not been vaccinated for hepatitis A. Anyone who wants to be protected can get the hepatitis A vaccine, but vaccination is especially important for those at high risk in this outbreak, including:

  • People who use injection and non-injection drugs.
  • People experiencing homelessness or unstable housing.
  • People who are currently or were recently incarcerated.

You can find more information and resources at Hepatitis A Outbreak Prevention and Response.

Hepatitis A vaccine doses increased when outbreak started

*Hepatitis A outbreak was declared in Minnesota in August 2019.

The average number of hepatitis A vaccine doses administered to adults by month in 2019 was just over 5000, but has risen to almost 6300 doses a month since the declaration of the outbreak.

MIIC Tip: Use of MIIC for Vaccine Recall

If your clinic needs to recall patients because a vaccine lot was recalled, the vaccine was expired, or there was a storage and handling issue, we can help! MIIC can be used to determine which of your patients need to be recalled based on administration dates, product name, or lot number. Once those patients are identified, we can use MIIC’s manual invalidation feature to maintain an accurate picture of what the patient received while also accurately forecasting doses they need. Contact the MIIC Help Desk or your MIIC regional coordinator if you have any questions.
