Severe lung injuries associated with vaping
Resources are available
Number of confirmed or probable cases: 22
Number of people under review: 13
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is working with local public health and health care providers to investigate reports of severe lung injury potentially related to vaping and e-cigarette use among teens and adults.
With similar reports coming from other states in recent weeks, MDH is partnering with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to determine a cause and what steps may be taken to prevent additional illness. To date, more than 450 cases have been reported from multiple states. Many of the patients report having vaped illicit THC (a component of cannabis).

Duluth site added
This fall’s regional meeting series will focus on healthcare and healthy eating partnerships. Local SHIP staff have been instrumental in securing sites, planning the agenda and recommending presenters. A site was added in Duluth (see below).
Goals for the session are:
- Listen to community partners who will provide examples of changing policy, systems or environment through healthcare and healthy eating partnerships
- Identify opportunities for building or enhancing community partnerships during a site visit
- Discover and discuss tools, resources and ideas during networking time with peers
Up to an hour will be set aside to hear updates on and discuss planning for the next SHIP.
