CID publication describes antibiotic prescribing in outpatient cancer center
A new article in Clinical Infectious Diseases (CID) describes prescribing for adult upper respiratory tract infections (URI) in an outpatient cancer center.
- Nearly one third of patients presenting with URI received an antibiotic, which is similar to other outpatient settings.
- Follow-up visits for URI were not significantly different for patients prescribed and not prescribed antibiotics at the initial encounter.
- URI viral testing was associated with a lower likelihood of antibiotic prescription.
