This Week's Gem
The Office of Statewide Health Improvement Initiatives (OSHII) has
been selected to participate in a partnership with Harvard T.H. Chan
School of Public Health to identify cost-effective childhood obesity
prevention interventions in Minnesota.
The project is affiliated with the Childhood Obesity
Intervention Cost-Effectiveness Study (CHOICES) at the Harvard
Prevention Research Center on Nutrition and Physical Activity. To date,
the CHOICES research team has successfully modeled more than 40
different interventions related to healthy eating and physical
activity.
The project will include modeling two interventions that not only
are proven to be effective in preventing childhood obesity, but also
deliver the best results for the dollars invested in them.
The project runs to June 2018. Results of the modeling will be
shared at the end of the project year. The Minnesota project team
includes OSHII staff along with representatives from the Minneapolis
Health Department, the American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate,
the Public Health Law Center and the University of Minnesota Division
of Health Policy and Management.
In addition to OSHII, CHOICES partnership locations this year include Hawaii, Denver and San Antonio, Texas.
