Syphilis on the Rise in Minnesota
Syphilis rates are increasing in Minnesota. Syphilis is a
sexually transmitted disease that can cause serious health complications if
left untreated, including damage to the heart, blood vessels, liver, bones and
joints, dementia and even death. Untreated syphilis in pregnant women can lead
to a low birth weight baby, early delivery of a baby or stillbirth.
Be a champion for your clients by raising their
awareness of all sexually transmitted diseases, particularly syphilis, and help
improve and maintain their long term health.
For more information about syphilis, testing
locations and/or printed materials visit this MDH link. If you are interested in
educational trainings for your staff and/or clients on syphilis, HIV, hepatitis
C and other STDs, don’t hesitate to contact the Department of Health directly. To request a presentation
from MDH staff, fill out this online form.

Health Disparities Roundtable – Building Safe
and Healthy Communities for All
April 7, 2017 – Minneapolis, MN
Addressing
the health and safety issues of communities across the country can be seen as
both a concern and an opportunity. Current efforts recognize the importance of
collaborative, cross-sector decision-making and strategic policies, practices
and programs that will benefit of all populations, but how do we make this a
reality? Keynote speakers for this event will address the challenges in
reducing disparities, provide insight on what the words “healthy” and “safe”
mean for different communities, and discuss strategies and best practices that
assure conditions for optimal health and safety for all people. For more information
