USDA Summer Food Service Program Provides Nutritious, Free Meals Across Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is supporting 180 schools and community organizations providing meals and snacks at over 715 meal sites across Minnesota this summer through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

"Every child deserves access to healthy meals year-round," said Commissioner Willie Jett. "These summer meals programs provide critical support to families and help ensure children can grow, learn, and succeed, even when school is not in session."

The Summer Food Service Program is a federal nutrition program funded by the USDA and administered by MDE. The program provides food to children ages 18 and younger and to those older than 18 with mental or physical disabilities who participate in school programs. Most summer meals sites can offer up to two meals per child per day between breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper.
