Minnesotans Recognize Educators with Nearly 3,600 Messages of Thanks

Minnesota Department of Education is Delivering Cards to More Than 1,200 Schools This Week

MINNEAPOLIS — In this season of gratitude, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is delivering messages of appreciation from students, families, and community members to teachers, school leaders, and school support staff members. In the face of uncertainty, Minnesota educators work every day to create supportive, and welcoming school environments where students feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn.

In recognition of that dedication, MDE invited Minnesota State Fairgoers to write a thank you card to a teacher or school staff member who made a difference in their life. Minnesotans came out in droves, handwriting nearly 3,600 messages of gratitude for their amazing work serving students – representing roughly one thank you card for every 20 educators in our state.

Now, MDE is delivering those cards to more than 1,200 schools in every corner of Minnesota in time for Thanksgiving this week.

“Thank you, educators for helping students feel supported, so they can come to school and have a safe place to learn and grow,” said MDE Commissioner Willie Jett. “These cards are a testament to the difference you make every day. You’re teaching students that they matter and have a voice and a mind worth engaging – and that lesson has lifelong impact.”

The thank you cards were written by current and former students, colleagues, friends and family members who wanted to express their appreciation for the teachers and educators in their lives. Anyone who wasn’t able to stop by the MDE booth this summer to fill out a card can submit one digitally until Dec. 2, and MDE will deliver them by email.

Messages of thanks written to educators this year include notes such as:

  • You show so much passion in your teaching and leadership! Thank you for dedicating your work to us students!
  • You have changed both my children’s lives with your great teaching of music.
  • You’re the kind of teacher I want to be. I’m going to the U of M for PSEO, and I’m working towards an education degree. ... Thank you for being a great teacher.
  • We see the difference that you make and the impact that you have. Words don’t describe our level of appreciation for you. Thank you
  • You’re a great educator because without your support I wouldn’t have gotten through high school.
  • You were one of the best. Class was never boring, and you made history come alive. Thank you, you impacted my life for the better.
  • Thank you for inspiring my new love for math! I’m now in charge of math planning for 4th grade! I strive to spark the love for math in my students the way you did for me.
  • Thank you for being an awesome para and helping me so much!
  • You’re the best teacher in the world!
  • You will forever be my favorite teacher. You were so fun and kind.
  • I wish you could be my teacher forever.

  • You recognize the needs of each student and make learning hands-on and fun!
  • I’m not sure anyone believed in me more than you did when I was in your class. The way you taught really had an impact on me and part of me wants to be a teacher. I think that’s because of you.
  • You make things more interesting and fun, so you make school fun and learning. Thanks
  • You taught me how to read!
