Minnesota Schools Recognized for Promoting Positive Behavior in School, Supporting Student Success
MDE Honors Schools and Districts for Their Continued Work to Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
MINNEAPOLIS – Today, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) announced that 93 schools representing 41 districts have been recognized for their sustained commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). A total of five districts are also being recognized for districtwide efforts. These schools and districts have demonstrated exceptional leadership in improving school climate, engaging the community, and increasing student achievement.
PBIS is an evidence-based framework for preventing problem behavior, providing instruction and support for positive and cooperative behaviors, and supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students. By creating a positive school climate and culture, PBIS has been shown to improve student outcomes, reduce disciplinary incidents, and increase student engagement. For over two decades, Minnesota schools and districts have embraced PBIS as a strategy to create positive and supportive learning environments. This year’s honorees exemplify the dedication and perseverance required to implement and sustain PBIS over time.
To recognize these outstanding achievements, MDE Commissioner Willie Jett will honor the following schools and districts at an August 14 recognition ceremony.
