Minnesota Students Selected to Attend the 2025 National Youth Science Camp


MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota high school students Vikram Sharma of Lake Elmo and Mary Zins of Coon Rapids have been selected to represent Minnesota at the 2025 National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp) to be held July 10-Aug. 2 at Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia.

"Congratulations Vikram and Mary on this opportunity to learn and grow. Minnesota is proud of you and the work you've done to serve your schools and advance your skills in STEM," said Commissioner Willie Jett. "Thank you for representing Minnesota this year at the National Youth Science Camp." 

Vikram Sharma

Vikram Sharma is  a senior at St. Croix Preparatory Academy Upper School in Stillwater and concurrently enrolled in the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Mathematics Program. Vikram is Valedictorian, an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar of Distinction and earned an AP Capstone Diploma. He also serves as student council president, secretary and blood drive chair for the National Honors Society, and as the executive director of discussions on diversity.

Mary Zins

Mary Zins, is a senior in the Center for Engineering, Mathematics and Science Program at Blaine High School. She is an AP Scholar of Distinction, a College Board National First-Generation Recognition Program Awardee, and took first place in the Fundamentals of Web Design  Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regionals. She also serves as the BPA chapter president and the Thespian Troupe & Theatre president.

In its 62nd year, the NYSCamp is a residential science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) program in the eastern mountains of West Virginia designed to honor and challenge some of the nation’s rising STEAM leaders and provide them with opportunities to engage with STEAM professionals and participate in exciting outdoor activities.

Adeline Joy Lovaas of Edina, Lydia Geelan of Edina, and Michi Liang of St. Paul have been confirmed as alternates.

Support from the National Youth Science Academy (formerly the National Youth Science Foundation) allows Vikram Sharma and Mary Zins to attend the NYSCamp program free of charge.
