Minnesota Educators and School Leaders:
Today, I am sending a letter to the U.S. Department of Education in response to their April 3 communication requesting certification of compliance.
The value and commitment to civil rights enshrined in state and federal law continues to ground the Minnesota Department of Education’s work: in Minnesota, we believe every child—of every background, zip code and ability—deserves access to a world-class education.
MDE has been faithfully implementing education programs in accordance with federal and state law and will continue to do so. ED’s recent request does not change our work or our commitments to serving learners. We will not allow uncertainty or threats to penalize the most vulnerable children in Minnesota.
Minnesota has a long-standing commitment to high-quality education and strong state-level policies that protect every child’s right to learn in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
Thank you for your continued leadership to advance educational opportunity for all students now and into the future. MDE will continue to advocate for the stability, resources, and policies that ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Willie
