Peer Coaching Fall 2024 Training Opportunities

The Minnesota Department of Education is excited to present professional development centered on foundational coaching and observational skills that lead to teacher effectiveness, increased student learning, and equitable outcomes for every learner.

​This updated training is designed with new coaches in mind who work with actively instructing teachers and all are welcome. Participant objectives include leveraging a culturally responsive coaching approach that promotes leadership among all school staff, including:

  • Establishing conditions for effective coaching and collaboration and deepening belonging in the school environment.
  • ​Applying active listening and questioning techniques that encourage educator reflection.
  • ​Following a collaborative coaching cycle process that supports critical thinking focused on student learning.

​Peer Coaching Locations and Dates

The training will be offered regionally. Learn more about peer coaching dates and locations and register for the sessions. Please note that space for this training is limited.

​Webinar: Planning for New Teacher Orientation

​Join the New Teacher Center (NTC) in partnership with MDE for a session designed to enhance your new teacher orientation and provide new teachers with tools to guide them toward success. The session will take place on August 1, 2024, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

​​The session will provide practical strategies for developing new teachers and organizing their abilities around Knowing Their Community, Knowing Their Content, and Knowing Their Support Systems. During this time, you will have the opportunity to engage with other district, charter, and school induction leaders to exchange ideas and leave with a toolkit of resources to enhance new teacher orientation.

​Register in advance for the Planning for New Teacher Orientation Session. Registrants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

​Changing to a Culturally Responsive Observation Framework

​The teacher development and evaluation (TDE) statute has changed impacting all Minnesota school districts and charter schools. Now what? Where do we start? If your oversight team is wondering where to begin, this session will offer a block of time to begin planning on how to shift your district’s current instructional observation process to incorporate culturally responsive methodologies. This session is intended to begin the process that you can take back to your learning community and complete.

​Teams will:

​Intended Audience: TDE and Q Comp oversight teams including but not limited to superintendents, principals, peer observers, teachers.

​Note: The entire team is not required to attend, a smaller group may attend and then share with the entire team at a later date.

​Location: Minnesota Department of Education, 400 NE Stinson Blvd., Minneapolis

​Professional Educator Standards and Licensing Board (PELSB) Requests You Complete the Transition to Minnesota School Jobs by June 30

Minnesota School Jobs has received official recognition from the PESLB as the new designated statewide job board for Minnesota. This transition provides public school employers with a new channel to attract job seekers. Public schools will be required to use Minnesota School Jobs for any Tier 1 or Out-of-Field Permission posting beginning July 1, 2024. To help with this transition, please complete the Employer Account Request Form by June 30 to ensure no disruption to posting positions.

​Additionally, PELSB and Minnesota School Jobs hosted a district information session on using the new job board platform. A recording of the PELSB Statewide Job Board Meeting and additional information sessions with Minnesota School Jobs are available.
