Updates related to the Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) summer business camp:
- The "Early Bird" registration rate of $200 per student is good through April 19. After that, the registration cost moves to $300 per student.
- Event will be held on the University of St. Thomas campus in two separate sessions (students register for only one):
- Sunday, July 7, to Friday, July 12
- Sunday, July 21, to Friday, July 26
- Camp is still looking for adults to serve as Mock Interviewers for each week's session. Student interviews take place on July 9 and July 23 (9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. both dates, with lunch included).
- Complete the MBV Volunteer Registration Form if you are interested. And consider sharing this opportunity with members of your Advisory Committee.
Minnesota’s Computer Science (CS) Working Group developed a state strategic plan for computer science, finalized in March 2024, which describes 10 recommendations for long-term and sustained growth of computer science education across all public K-12 and charter schools in Minnesota, as outlined in the Computer Science Education Advancement Act. Minn. Stat. 120B.241 (2023). The recommendations are aligned to the requirements outlined in the legislation, such as licensure, high-quality professional development, continuous improvement, and standards, among others.

Anticipated Program Approval technical assistance resources are set to be released to CTE Business teachers whose programs are up for five-year renewal along with other CTE programs in their Perkins Consortium. Those resources will include:
- Links to two training videos that will explain the Program Approval renewal process and highlight key actions and evidence that comprise that process.
- An instruction guide on how to complete each aspect of the application, and evidence expectations for course syllabi and documentation for work-based learning courses/programs.
- Handouts on student leadership development, career development, and how to use Frameworks and Table C.
Additional support sessions have been scheduled to provide teachers opportunities to work directly with MDE Business and Marketing Specialist Dean Breuer in the development of their application materials. Links to those sessions are provided below:
A new Personal Finance Course Guide is available for FREE download. This guide provides student activities, ethics cases, a financial literacy project, and a list of financial literacy support resources. Topics addressed in this course guide include: setting financial goals, earning income, budgeting, spending, saving, managing credit, insurance, and investing. You can download the course guide from the MBA Research website.
Updates to FREE career exploration modules for middle school students are now available. The new career exploration series emphasizes introspective and experiential skills. The package includes 20 instructional modules covering topics including:
- Time Management
- Money Management
- Communication Skills
- Careers in Finance
- Careers in IT
- Setting Goals
Each module contains a PowerPoint presentation, a teacher presentation guide/script, and a student guide. You can download the middle school career modules at no cost, courtesy of the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative.
Certiport has an excellent opportunity for Minnesota business, marketing, and information technology instructors through their Spring of 2024 Learning Products Promotion and Pilot Program. Instructors can sign up for free 90-day licensing for courseware and practice materials for all certification programs and CTE courseware.
Certiport will provide four free student vouchers and free teacher vouchers to pilot certification programs for any instructor who signs up for the courseware promotion. Programs of interest include: Microsoft Office Specialist, Adobe Certified Professional, Intuit QuickBooks Certified User, Entrepreneurship and Small Business, and Meta Digital Marketing Associate.
