The Minnesota Department of Education, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Center is adding a few opportunities to participate in an overview of Restorative Principles and Practices, April 17 and 18 and May 7. We are also adding an online Restorative Chats training, February 26, 27 and 28.
Restorative practices (RP) is an approach schools can use to improve school climate and repair relationships, based in the knowledge and world-view of many Indigenous cultures.
First Steps: An RP Overview
Register for First Steps: An RP Overview. In this introductory session, explore the foundational principles of restorative philosophy, including what restorative practices are and what they are not. Through experiential learning, using circle, dyads and written reflection, participants can explore how your personal restorative impulses show up in the world. People who will attend Circle 1 are encouraged to attend, as well as building and district RP teams, friends and family!

They will discuss what restorative language is and isn’t, including identifying deficit thinking and harmful language. Participants will practice restorative chats, which are quick, in-the-moment, guided conversations.
