Updated Guidance Memo for Rural Designations in the Summer Meal Programs
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a memo with revised guidance on rural designations in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the National School Lunch Program’s Seamless Summer Option (SSO). This memo explains the new definition for the term rural and provides information on how to designate sites as rural. February Tuesday@2: School Year 2024–25 Food Distribution Program (FDP) Updates
Visit the MDE Calendar to register for the upcoming Tuesday@2 webinar covering updates to the USDA Foods program for the current and upcoming school year on February 13, 2024, at 2 p.m. Stakeholders should register even if they are not able to attend as this webinar will be recorded and sent to those registered after the training.
USDA Foods in Schools Foods Available List (FAL) for School Year 2024–25 is now available. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) will include some foods from this list in the Spring store. Items included will be based on Food Distribution Program (FDP) sponsor interest survey results from January 2024. However, all USDA Child Nutrition sponsors are welcome to view the FAL list.
