The Minnesota Department of Education is pleased to announce the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) –Cohort 5 grant competition. Approximately $5 million is available to establish or expand high-quality afterschool programs that offer a broad array of services and activities designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students before and after school, on school release days, weekends and school vacation periods.
Examples of agencies and organizations eligible to apply for a 21st CCLC grant include, but are not limited to: schools, school districts, non-profit agencies, city or county government agencies, faith-based organizations, institutions of higher education and for-profit corporations.
To be considered for an award, eligible applicants must:
• Primarily serve youth who attend high poverty schools or schools eligible for Title I schoolwide programs; and
• Propose to serve youth on a year-round basis, including school release days and a summer program.
Competitive priority will be awarded to eligible applicants that:
• Propose to serve children and youth in schools designated as not making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and are submitted jointly between at least one school or school district receiving funds under Title I, Part A and at least one community-based organization or other public or private organization.
• Propose to serve middle and/or high school students (grades 6-12), either as the sole targeted group or as a significant part of the targeted population.

Applications must be received in hard copy format on or before Monday, April 23, 2012, 4:30 pm, Central Time. Faxed or e-mailed applications will NOT be accepted or reviewed. Applicants will not use the SERVS system to apply for this grant opportunity.
