Essentials for CACFP Virtual Workshop Series – January 2023
Registration is open for the next four-part Essentials for CACFP Virtual Workshop Series designed for new CACFP center directors, staff and food service employees. Each workshop consists of 90 minutes of planned content and time for questions and answers.

Reminder: Talk to Nutrition Program Services (NPS) – Community Nutrition for Non-School Sponsors of CACFP

Non-school sponsors of the CACFP (including At-Risk) are invited to join us for the first Talk to NPS – Community Nutrition virtual session on December 6, 2022, at 2 p.m. During this session, CACFP staff training resources and procurement reminders will be shared. NPS staff will also be available the majority of the time to answer your questions about CACFP-related issues.

Equipment Grant Application Coming Soon
The FY21 Equipment Grant application will be available in early December. The purpose of this competitive grant opportunity is for school food authorities (SFAs) in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) in Minnesota to purchase new equipment needed to 1) serve healthier meals; 2) improve food safety; or 3) help support the establishment, maintenance, or expansion of the School Breakfast Program.
Please check MDE’s Grants page for the grant application information. FY21 Equipment Grant applications will be due by January 6, 2023.

Topic: Professional Standards Hiring and Training Requirements
Description: This session will provide an overview of the USDA Professional Standards Hiring and Training Requirements. It will also highlight some tips, tricks, and resources for meeting and documenting these requirements. Also bring any program questions that you have, and School Nutrition Program staff will be available to address them.
Lunch Shaming Includes Alternate Meals
On Friday, November 18, schools were notified of the Attorney General’s opinion that schools may NOT provide an alternate meal to a student as a result of school lunch debt.
School districts that have been providing an alternative meal as a result of school lunch debt must stop this practice immediately.
If you have any questions regarding this opinion from the attorney general, please submit your questions to Nutrition Program Services by Friday, December 9, 2022.
Nutrition Program Services will review the questions and provide responses in an upcoming bulletin.

Join Minnesota Farm to School partners (Minnesota Department of Education, Minnesota Department of Agriculture, University of Minnesota Extension and Renewing the Countryside) when we come to your area for a farm to school workshop and networking event.
