Frequently Asked Questions: American Sign Language (ASL) and English Learner (EL) Status
Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, American Sign Language (ASL) was included as a home primary language for purposes of English Learner (EL) identification, funding and programming. A new frequently asked questions document provides information and resources for schools and districts about students who qualify for these services. Collaboration to Support Students with Autism
The Department of Human Services (DHS) and MDE published a joint memo to clarify how Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) providers can collaborate with school districts to coordinate supports across service systems for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related conditions.
To learn more, read the full announcement on the DHS website.
Skills for Psychological Recovery
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is hosting a training on Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR), an evidence-informed intervention designed to help individuals gain skills to reduce ongoing distress, promote resilience and effectively cope in the weeks and months following a disaster or crisis. SPR is intended for individuals needing more than a single, brief intervention by a non-specialist but not necessarily needing full treatment for depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
This set of trainings will focus on the experiences and concerns of children with special health needs and individuals with disabilities and the people who care for them. Weekly sessions run from May 18 to June 29, 2022, from noon to 1:30 p.m. A $200 stipend is available to the first 40 people who complete the seven training sessions and share the learning with at least 10 more people.
Register for this SPR training on the smartsheet website by Monday, May 9, 2022. View more information about SPR on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website. If you have questions, view the FAQs on the mnpedcares.com website, email spr@acetinc.com or call 952-922-1811.
