Three Minnesota Students Selected as U.S. Presidential Scholars
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding students
ROSEVILLE – Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced the 57th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars, including three students from Minnesota. Lucas Scott Eggers from Rochester and Esperanza Lee from St. Paul are recognized as Presidential Scholars. Madelyn Dietz from St. Paul is recognized as a Presidential Scholar in Arts. Scholars are recognized for their demonstration of leadership, scholarship, contribution to school and community, and outstanding accomplishments in the arts, sciences, humanities, and other fields of interest.
“Congratulations to Lucas, Esperanza and Madelyn for this incredible honor,” said Education Commissioner Dr. Heather Mueller. “Your commitment to community service and academic success is inspiring, especially during these extraordinary times. We are fortunate to have such exceptional young leaders from Minnesota.”
The Commission on Presidential Scholars recognizes students annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.
Created in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program has honored over 7,600 of the nation’s top-performing students. The program was expanded in 1979 to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, literary and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.
The Presidential Scholars Class of 2021 will be recognized for their outstanding achievement this summer.
